In Buddhist art, Manjushree is often shown holding a flaming sword, symbolizing wisdom cutting through ignorance and confusion. He may also be depicted with a lotus supporting the Prajnaparamita scripture, representing the perfection of wisdom. His image is therefore especially meaningful for meditation, study, reflection, and the cultivation of a calm and clear mind.
Manjushree has a long history in Buddhist tradition and appears in many important Mahayana scriptures. He is especially revered in Nepal and Tibet. According to traditional Newar Buddhist legend, Manjushree is also connected with the history of the Kathmandu Valley, where he is said to have cut a gorge at Chobar to release the water of an ancient lake and make the valley habitable.
Although Manjushree is primarily associated with wisdom rather than being specifically a deity of peace, his image can create a peaceful and contemplative atmosphere. It is suitable for meditation rooms, Buddhist centers, libraries, study spaces, yoga rooms, prayer areas, and spiritual home decoration.
